2025 STOP Program
Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jennifer DeSena and the Town Board are pleased to once again present:2025 STOP THROWING OUT POLLUTANTSAll S.T.O.P. events take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.Bring your aerosols, household chemicals, pesticides, disinfectants, fertilizers, bulbs, thermostats, rechargeable and lithium batteries, TV’s, and computers. Residents are invited to shred any personal paper documents free of charge (limit 6 legal boxes per vehicle, per day).The Town will be accepting gently used and working clothes, stuffed animals, electronics, toys, sporting equipment, shoes, books, small area rugs, bikes, scooters, luggage, picture frames, table lamps, bolts of fabric, silverware, glassware, dishes, and cosmetics. Each resident will receive a receipt for their donation for income tax purposes.S.T.O.P. events, sponsored by the Town of North Hempstead, are for Town of North Hempstead residents only (no commercial vehicles allowed). Participants must show a driver’s license or other valid proof of residency. For safety reasons, residents must remain in their cars while event staff remove items to be discarded. 4/26/25 - Boating Safety Course - Tully Park
North Hempstead to Host FREE Boating Safety Courses this SpringNorth Hempstead Town Supervisor Jennifer DeSena, the North Hempstead Town Board, and the Town’s Department of Public Safety are partnering with New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation to host two FREE New York Boating Safety Courses at Michael J. Tully Park, 1801 Evergreen Ave., New Hyde Park. The second class will be held on Saturday, April 26 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.Residents who plan to operate a motorboat or personal watercraft in state waters must complete this course. North Hempstead’s Public Safety Department has several Bay Constables certified under the New York State Parks Department to teach the New York State Boating Safety Course. The eight-hour course will teach the principles of safe and responsible boating, including basic skills, common sense, and courtesy to all who share the water. The class will also discuss the rules of the nautical road, safety equipment, special boating-related activities, and more. Students who complete this course earn a safe boating certificate. Participants must be at least 10 years old. You must register online if you plan on taking the course, as seating is limited. Below are the links to register for the course, held at Michael J.
